Primary Research Advisor: Prof. Stephen Paddison I am a third year graduate student in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, graduating from the University of Tennessee in May 2009 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. As an undergraduate student, I interned with Eastman Chemical Co. and Kimberly Clark where my passion for engineering research grew outside of the classroom. In my final year as an undergraduate, I was part of a team that competed in the EPA’s P3 Competition for Sustainability. This competition sparked a strong interest for me in the subject of sustainable energy research by giving me the opportunity to observe how other students across the country were addressing various issues concerning the environmental impacts of various processes. These experiences, along with my desire to impact the scientific community, drew me to the STAIR program. I feel it is important for scientists of all disciplines to use and share their abilities in order to enhance existing technologies and to discover new ones in attempts to improve the world in which we live. Being involved in the STAIR program presents an incredible opportunity for me to do this by working alongside other scientists in efforts to develop new pathways for sustainable energy while also aiding in my continuous growth as a scientist. I am excited to be a part of the STAIR program and all it has to offer, and I look forward to facing the challenges ahead. When I am not playing the role of a scientist, I spend most of my time with my lovely wife, Lindsey, playing tennis, board games, and watching movies. I also enjoy playing golf, but I am a far cry away from pursuing a career through it.
