STAIR: Sustainable Technology through Advanced Interdisciplinary Research

Shawn Buckley-Task 1 Team Member

Primary Research Task: Production of Hydrogen as a Potential Fuel Source Using the Photosystems of Algae and Photosynthetic Bacteria

There is always something positive in doing more with less, and it does not matter how the reduction comes about, be it new technology, new application of thought, or utilization of new materials. One such way to do this is through sustainable technology. The STAIR program is especially attractive because the technology under research is not only renewable, but the product is also biologically sourced. It is a step toward doing more with less. I graduated from Mississippi State University with a BS in chemical engineering in 2009. I am currently enrolled in a PhD program in the chemical engineering department is the University of Tennessee.

In my down time, I enjoy reading, playing computer games and building plastic models. I read all the books that I can get my hands on, including everything from the classics to mysteries to action novels. My last completed model project was a World War II German Railway gun, and my current project is a World War II German super heavy siege mortar.
