MSE Students Present at the It Takes A Volunteer Campaign Launch Knoxville, TN, September 18, 2026  As part of the kick-off event for the It Takes A Volunteer Campaign, MSE junior, Callie Jee, and MSE sophomore, Amelia Northam, were invited to present their undergraduate research. They are both working on the development of new natural fiber reinforced polymer composites, utilizing recycled paper as the source of the natural fiber. They are pictured here with their research mentor, Prof. David Harper, whose primary appointment is in the Center for Renewable Carbon at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture with a joint appointment in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. A variety of attendees stopped by the poster to hear Callie and Amelia share the impact of their research, including Tennessee State Senator Becky Massey, Dr. Deborah Crawford, Vice Chancellor for Research and former MSE department head, Dr. Veerle Keppens, now Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.
